Traditional Signwriting, Gold Leaf & Reverse Glass Gilding

Hand-painted signs and lettering for businesses, heritage projects, vehicles, boats, exhibitions & more.

Hand

Painted

Hand‑painted signs offer a blend of craftsmanship, longevity and bespoke character that vinyl cannot replicate. The depth of colour, subtle texture and brushwork create a visual presence that ages gracefully rather than peeling or fading. Pigment-rich paints resist UV and abrasion better over time, making signs that stand out and convey authenticity and quality to customers.

The sustainability of long‑lasting paints and the reparability of hand finishes reduce lifecycle costs and waste compared with disposable vinyl graphics. This makes hand‑painted signage a distinctive investment for businesses that want to be seen and remembered.

What I Do

I have completed training under several signwriters in both England and Australia through a combination of mentorships, workshops and a traditional curriculum reminiscent of the trade-school approach when that training was still widely available.

My education focused on classical signwriting techniques: proportional layout and lettering, design and composition, traditional materials and surface preparation, and reverse-glass gilding using genuine gold leaf.

I work onsite for vehicles, shopfronts and bespoke commissions, travelling to paint directly where the work will be seen. I also undertake studio commissions—hand-painted signs and gilded glass pieces—suitable for nationwide delivery. I have completed international shipments to Sweden and Berlin and can arrange secure packing and transport for pieces bound for overseas destinations.

My practice honours traditional methods and materials, executed with careful craftsmanship and attention to historical detail. Whether a site visit or a studio commission, I deliver durable work designed to outlast vinyl.
